Musing Mondays

Today’s MUSING MONDAYS post is about a random book.
I’ve seen several bloggers mention reading multiple books this week. Do you frequently read more than one book at a time? Do you try to limit this to a certain number? Do you have different books for different purposes/topics?

Oh, I really try to not read multiple books at once. But this week I kind of broke that. I started a book on Friday, read more of it Saturday morning, but then I put it down and read a completely different book Saturday afternoon and all day Sunday. I then picked the first book back up Sunday night after I'd finished the second one. But since all of this transpired over just a 48 hour period, I didn't have time to forget the first book. Also the two books were plenty different enough in plot, genre, and tone that I didn't have to worry about confusing them. I am not loving the first book, and I watched a documentary on PBS that really inspired me to start the second one.

Meanwhile, I do have a perpetual book going for over a year now so I guess I'm always reading 2 at once, but it's Life With Jeeves, a Jeeves and Bertie compilation by P. G. Wodehouse. These chapters are essentially short stories. You never have to worry about losing the train of character development because Bertie's never going to grow as a person (though that's one reason we love him). As much as I love Bertie and Jeeves, I tend to overdose on them quickly so I prefer it in small doses. Plus, as such a reliable laugh I want to save it for a bummer of a day when I really need a pick-me-up.

I have a book that took me a year to read because of where I kept it. Got to get another one placed there!
