Book Beginnings on Friday

Book Beginnings on Friday is a meme hosted by Becky at Page Turners. Anyone can participate; just share the opening sentence of your current read, making sure that you include the title and author so others know what you're reading. If you like, share with everyone why you do, or do not, like the sentence.

"Outside the village there is a fire ring, blackening the thawing snow."
From The Swan Thieves by Elizabeth Kostova
It's moody, evocative, atmospheric. Doesn't really tell me anything, but it is a bit intriguing.

I really like that sentence. I hope you are enjoying The Swan Thieves. I tried reading The Historian a few years ago but didn't get through it at the time. I like art so I might enjoy this one more.

Here is my book beginnings on Friday post.

That sounds like a good beginning. It is mysterious, and it is a true beginning, not something that starts half way through some action. I really need to read this book. Thanks for participating in book beginnings
