Read-A-Thon Wrap-Up

Wow, I'm old. That was my realization as I was having trouble staying awake to finish my last book. I am a night person and staying up late has never been a problem for me, but it took me about 15 minutes to read the last 3 pages as I had trouble keeping my eyes open. But I fought through! So I finished 4.5 books. Here are my total stats:

My Darling, My Hamburger by Paul Zindel
page count: 122
The Headmaster by John McPhee
page count: 149
Persepolis: The Story of a Childhood by Marjane Satrapi
page count: 153
The Thin Man by Dashiell Hammett
page count: 201
Mennonite in a Little Black Dress by Rhoda Janzen
page count: 256 (1/2 read. Counting it as 125 pages read, although I've actually been listening to the audio and it's over 8 hours, and I have listened to over 4.)

Total page count: 750. Wow, that really added up! Thanks to this experiment, I think on my next cross-country trip instead of taking 1 huge book, which is my usual MO, I might bring 4 regular-sized books instead. Reviews will be posted throughout the week. This was so much fun! I was worried it would be a lot of pressure and instead it was a lot of enthusiasm. Thanks so much to all the cheerleaders! Love the poems! I even got a Haiku!

Now my Monday What are You Reading will be impressive instead of lame. I am halfway through my thick biography and now I can keep going without getting dragged down by the lack of quick progress. That's also good to know generally so next time I attempt a 600 page very dry biography, I might take a break midway and read a short book or two along the way. I normally worry that will get me away from the original book permanently, but I think that's a worry I shouldn't be indulging.

Thanks for taking this little journey with me! It's been fun! Hope you guys had a ball too. Will be going it again in October!

Wow...congratulations! That's amazing that you read 750 pages! I think I will try this challenge in October. I will have to find some short books though--I typically don't read a lot of short ones. I'm sure it won't be too hard with my book hoarding problem though! Can't wait to see your post tomorrow and your reviews.
