Book Beginnings on Friday: Shogun

Book Beginnings on Friday is a meme hosted by Katy from A Few More Pages. Anyone can participate; just share the opening sentence of your current read, making sure that you include the title and author so others know what you're reading.

Shogun: A Novel of Japan by James Clavell
"The gale tore at him and he felt its bite deep within and he knew that if they did not make landfall in three days they would all be dead."

Well that's certainly an opener that will suck you in! Action, adventure, pending death, what a way to start!

Wow! Gripping start to a novel. I also love the cover art you included.

Other Carin...I LOVE this book. I hope you enjoy it if it's your first time reading it. It's such a huge book, but there isn't a moment where I felt like Clavell was long-winded and could have cut parts out. So good. Makes me want to reread it!

Haha - I saw this blog post under your comment at A Little Bookish's blog and couldn't help but come on over...

...because I LOVE SHOGUN!!! I can't believe it's been almost 2 years since I've read it. I think I raved about it for over a year (until everyone got fed up with me and threatened to boil me alive).

Anyway, sorry if I'm coming across as a raving mad loony but I adore this book and I hope that you will too. It just gripped me right the way through and it is so funny as well. Had me snuffling into the pages when I was on the bus trying not to laugh too loud in public.
