Book Beginnings on Friday: Mockingjay

Book Beginnings on Friday is a meme hosted by Katy from A Few More Pages. Anyone can participate; just share the opening sentence of your current read, making sure that you include the title and author so others know what you're reading.

Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins

"I stare down at my shoes, watching as a fine layer of ash settles on the worn leather."

It is fitting that the book begins with ash, as fire and destruction have been themes throughout this trilogy.

I can actually see the fine layer of ash settling. How beautiful!

I hadn't thought of the symbolism of the first line when I read it. Good analysis.
