Book Beginnings on Friday: Foreign Correspondence by Geraldine Brooks

Book Beginnings on Friday is a meme hosted by Katy from A Few More Pages. Anyone can participate; just share the opening sentence of your current read, making sure that you include the title and author so others know what you're reading.

Foreign Correspondence: A Pen Pal's Journey from Down Under to All Over by Geraldine Brooks

"It is a hot spring day and I am in the basement of my parents' house in Sydney, sorting though tea chests."

In this tea chest, Geraldine will find the only memorabilia that her father saved that was something of Geraldine's, was her letters from her pen pals.

Hi Carin,

Great opening lines, very intriguing. I probably wouldn't be rushing out to buy this one, simply because I seldom, if ever, read memoirs.

Those lines and the whole synopsis of the book, certainly brings back fond memories of having pen pals during my schooldays, one in Germany and one in Singapore.

I never kept in touch with them when I finished my education, but I can recall waiting with great anticipation for the postman to arrive each week with their letters.

I hope that you enjoy this one and have a great weekend.

Yvonne

I look forward to your review for this one. I read the author's other non-fiction - Nine Parts of Desire - and was surprised by how much I liked it.
