Book Beginnings on Friday: Major Pettigrew's Last Stand by Helen Simonson

Book Beginnings on Friday is a meme hosted by Katy from A Few More Pages. Anyone can participate; just share the opening sentence of your current read, making sure that you include the title and author so others know what you're reading.

Major Pettigrew's Last Stand by Helen Simonson

"Major Pettigrew was still upset about the phone call from his brother's wife and so he answered the doorbell without thinking."

Who is there? And what did his brother's wife say to make him so upset?

I'm wondering the same things as you. Who was at the door that he should have looked first?

I think all of us are wondering about that opening line. I also wonder what kind of last stand he is taking.

It would be kinda funny if it was his brother standing at the door, with *HIS* side of things! :-D

That is a great opening sentence. It's long enough to be interesting and has the kind of details that get the story going.

This one is on my TBR shelf. I look forward to it.

Thanks for joining me on Book Beginnings! I am very excited to take over hosting responsibilities.
