Book Beginnings: I Will Not Leave You Comfortless

Book Beginnings on Friday is a meme originally hosted by Katy from A Few More Pages but now hosted by Gilion at Rose City Reader. Anyone can participate; just share the opening sentence of your current read, making sure that you include the title and author so others know what you're reading.

I Will Not Leave You Comfortless: A Memoir by Jeremy Jackson

"On the last Wednesday of April, 1983, my grandmother went to a funeral."

A funeral is an intriguing way to start things off! Makes me want to find out whose.

A little bit creepy. Makes me wonder whose funeral it was.

I'm wondering why the grandmother's attendance at a funeral is significant. It must be -- otherwise it wouldn't be the first sentence in this story! The book's title is intriguing too. I'm hooked.
My beginning is from THE ROOTS OF THE OLIVE TREE.

That does make you wonder whose funeral she is having to attend. Pretty good beginning.

I love what I think of as "random memoirs" - those by not famous people. This one looks interesting.
