Some We Love, Some We Hate, Some We Eat: Why It's So Hard to Think Straight About Animals by Hal Herzog
"The way we think about other species often defies logic."
Well yes, just the three animals on the cover evoke very different reactions from people. While the majority of us think dog: pet; rat: vermin; pig: food, there are plenty of people who have both rats and pigs as pets even in America (and in Asian countries, plenty of cultures see dogs as food, and in some Middle Eastern societies, dogs are looked upon like vermin.)

Very true! Both rats and pig are actually very clean. And I've had a number of friends who have had rats as pets. They are very sweet and loving creatures. I have fond memories of one crawling up the back of my shirt to sleep curled in the small of my back ^_^
Thanks for sharing this!
