Book Beginnings: This Dark Road to Mercy

Book Beginnings on Friday is a meme hosted by Gilion at Rose City Reader. Anyone can participate; just share the opening sentence of your current read, making sure that you include the title and author so others know what you're reading.

This Dark Road to Mercy by Wiley Cash

"Wade disappeared on us when I was nine years old, and then he showed up out of nowhere the year I turned twelve."

Well it's not exactly out of nowhere since it's after Easter (our narrator)'s mother has died, leaving Easter and her sister Ruby to the foster care system. But he did have a habit of disappearing.

This sounds dark and intense. Cash isn't an author I've come across before so I'll definitely have to check this book out. Thanks for sharing!

I'd probably buy this one for the cover. The book sounds sad, but intriguing. Hope you enjoy.

I agree with JLS, the cover is alluring, and the book beginning is inviting too; although, I personally do not prefer to have someone who walks in and out of my life. Thanks for sharing!

Sounds interesting. I like the author's voice -- "Wade disappeared on us." And the character's name (Easter) is unusual. Sounds like a book that's a little different.
