Book Review: Pretty in Plaid by Jen Lancaster

My last Jen Lancaster! So sad. I wish there were more. Maybe there will be in another year or two, but I know she's working on a novel, and she's pretty much used up most of her life in terms of memoirs, so while I"m worried the novel won't be as fantastic, I'll check it out.

Such a fun memoir! As usual. This one might actually be my second favorite. It's about growing up in the 70s and 80s, as a pretty typical kid complete with bullies, cheerleading, and Jordache jeans. She takes you from about the age of 10 through 30. You really do get to see how she grew up and how a lot of Jen came to be Jen (although truly, someone this brash was pretty much born that way!) She still has snark and sarcasm galore, but it's a tiny bit sweeter and softer.

I was completely taken back in time, and after reading all 5 of her memoirs, I honestly feel like I really know Jen, and I even feel like she's a friend. I'm not crazy and I don't think she's my friend, but reading these books is like having an ice cream (and a drink!) with your hilarious, honest, loud best friend who gets into funny situations. Go Jen! I really can't wait to see what she comes out with next.

I borrowed this book from a friend.

I've only read her first, because I feared her others would measure up. I laughed hysterically. Although for this one, I wonder why they used ARGYLE socks, not plaid??!!

This is the only one of her books I haven't read yet! Jen Lancaster really is just SPECTACULAR. I don't think any other author has ever made me laugh out loud so much. Thanks for the reminder to read Pretty in Plaid :)
