So, I found a video on how to make these. Unfortunately, I think the book you use as the base has to be somewhat thick which is a bummer as I had already decided on 4 to use and 3 are fairly thin (less than an inch.)

Has anyone tried doing these? Any tips/advice? Anyone had a bad experience with the invisible shelves? We're doing them with an L-bracket and wood screws, not with one of the kits, so the book on the bottom will be permanently stuck to the wall, so kind of destroyed/not accessible. But a heck of a lot cheaper than buying the fancy shelves, which I am not convinced don't hurt the books at all.

i love the look of these shelves! But sadly I have no clue how to make them. I know you can buy them for around 10 at Barns and Noble?
I love the look, and I think I'd seen a website or video before on how to make them. I am not handy though!
I don't think I can go for this look at our house with 3 cats... 1 of them already keep pushing my books off my desk! I can just see him jumping onto the diff shelves pushing books off. sigh.
Looks great. I found that video several months ago and wanted to try it, alas we're moving.
Great job, I'm very impressed.

Those look very cool and I'm definitely in need of more bookspace, but I'd worry my cats would try using them as places to rest!
I know I've seen them at Barnes & Nobles and Borders and maybe some other stores like Bed, Bath, and Beyond.
You may be able to find them inexpensively on amazon, as well!
Uh-oh, I hadn't thought about the cat situation! My BF (and his cat) are moving in at the end of the month. I should ask him if he thinks she'll be problematic with those. Thanks for reminding me, @Tedious and @Christa!
Can you post the link to the video on how to make them? They look amazing
